Originally from Uganda, I relocated to the United States in 2009 at the age of 25. I spent a decade in New York City, where I earned my United States citizenship. Eventually, I found my sense of home in Queen Anne, Seattle, Washington, and made the move to this vibrant and welcoming community.

Biography

I am a self-taught contemporary abstract artist who cultivated a passion for art as a hobby. I further pursued my interest in fine art during high school, experimenting with tie-dyes and engaging in spontaneous and intuitive drawings. My artistic repertoire encompasses a variety of forms, ranging from figure sketches to capturing the inherent beauty found in nature.

How did you develop into an artist?

Having worked in the medical field in New York, I found inspiration in the city’s vibrant culture and creative energy. This inspiration prompted me to delve into the world of art. Investing in canvases, paintbrushes, and other tools, I curated a distinctive color palette to convey the emotional essence of connection. Through my art, I skillfully capture the sentiments associated with my own life challenges, using the canvas to explore and discover myself. For me, this artistic journey serves as my “happy, serene place,” a collection of calming and beautiful colors that resonate with people from diverse backgrounds.

What is your chosen medium?

Working with acrylic paints on stretched canvas.

Why do you work with this medium – how did you develop the interest?

My affinity for acrylic paints blossomed when I was introduced to paint pouring, marking the beginning of my journey into original paintings. Subsequently, I explored contemporary free-style techniques, further expanding my artistic expression.

How long have you worked as an artist, how has your work developed?

I’ve been immersed in the world of art for four years. Initially, I delved into abstract paint pouring on stretched canvases, dedicating two years to exploring various shades and color schemes to familiarize myself with the medium. As my journey progressed, I set out to challenge myself further by engaging in abstract painting using multiple brushes and techniques. This evolution in my artistic approach aims to produce finished products that resonate with a diverse audience.

What makes your artwork stand out?

My artistic creations aim to capture the inner child within everyone and shared human experiences. I enhance these elements by infusing a more sophisticated aesthetic using contrast, texture, and depth, establishing a connection with the viewer. I consistently strive to think outside the conventional boundaries, ensuring the uniqueness of my products while maintaining meaningful and universally appealing qualities.

How are you planning to develop your work in the future – any future projects?

I embrace a spirit of experimentation with various mediums and art styles, continuously stepping out of my comfort zone to acquire new techniques and skills, broadening my artistic awareness. Actively engaging with galleries, fairs, and museums, I seek to stay informed about diverse artistic techniques and approaches. This knowledge informs my own artistic practice, allowing my paintings to stand out and resonate with individuals. Furthermore, I actively pursue opportunities to showcase my art in galleries, museums, and fairs, aiming to expose and share my work with a broader audience.
